Insulated wellies 1 Year ago Karma: 0
Winter is coming, and I'm sure we're all getting cold toes in our normal boots.

Does anyone know of any good thermal insulated wellies / waders? Or even insulation socks etc to wear inside the wellies?

I like thick seaboot sox and electrically heated insoles, but for the ultimate welly it has to be the Dunlop/Hevea Thermo+ wellies which will really make your feet steam and have huge grips for wearing in the muddiest conditions. Check out Shoxboy's latest vid on YouTube and watch his socks steam and you'll see what i mean.

I've also heard that Dunlop Thermo+ are the best insulated wellies you can get... They also look great in brightorange with blue sole!

Also, check out your local angling store - the one near me has loads of insulated wellies on display. Will have to have a look some time and make a note of the brands and maybe try some on

Yes, the angling wellies are great. I've got pairs by Derri, Skeetex, Boom 80 and Sundridge Hotfoot. All of them really keep your feet hot but they aren't the easiest to walk in and pull off easily in mud. The best boots here are the American ankle fit hunting boots by LaCrosse which are very well insulated but also are easy to walk in and don't get sucked off your feet in the ooze. The great exchange rate means eBay bargains and you can get them in all sorts of cool camo colours as well as basic green. I recommend the Burley Airgrip and Burley ATS 1200g Thinsulate. The Alpha Burleys are great too. the technology these boots have makes a Hunter look like an antique!

It's a shame they don't make waders with insulated wellies. I think this would be a great idea! Plus a nice fleece lining all the way to the top the the waders.

I've seen the lacrosse wellies on several websites and they look really great, although I've never bought any because of the material they are made of. It looks like mud will stick to it and not come off easily(like neoprene waders), or am I confused with another make?

I've never seen or heard of Burleys, but will definitely check them out and ask for a section to be added to the website that is dedicated to them...

Thanks for the tips muddywaders!

All the LaCrosse Burley wellies have rubber outer shells so mud washes off easily. If I'm in really deep cold mud I've just bought a pair of neoprene stocking foot chest waders to wear inside my rubber or PVC waders though not tried them yet. Been wearing neoprene socks for years in my wellies and waders though, the knee length Shakespeare ones are good.

By the way Mukluks used to do insulated waders with a removable foam liner to welly height. I had some of these as my first waders which I secretly bought second hand and hid away when I was 15. I'd seen a young lad of about 12/13 with his dad wading up a local stream which was too muddy and deep for wellies, both wearing black waders knee deep in the muddy stream bottom. I was transfixed and had to get a pair and copied the pair wallowing along that same stream and I've been hooked ever since. Don't know whether you can still get those waders nowadays.

Wearing neoprene waders inside PVC waders is a great idea - I'd not thought of that before. Must keep you really warm on those cold muddnig trips

I've never seen neoprene socks either - where did you get them? Do you tuck you trouser legs inside your socks so they stay in place when you pull your waders on? I always do.

I've not seen any Mukluk waders anywhere before, but if I see and I'll be sure to let you know.

I always tuck my camo trousers or trackies into my second _layer_ of socks then pull on the neoprenes as a final _layer_. I've got several pairs and they are available from any fishing shop but ebay is probably the best bet. I got a pair of Prologic camo ones for a couple of quid. The shakespeare ones go up to your knees but most are only calf height.

I have a pair of proper boot socks that go right up to my knees. I always wear a pair of normal socks, then the knee length ones with my socks tucked - they feel great in chest waders.

Re:Insulated wellies and socks 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
The best combination is a pair of cushion footed rugby/footie socks then army surplus seaboot socks which are way better than the socks in the shops. They are much thicker and heavier duty and really long plus they last for ages so are worth the extra cost (about £10 on eBay which is still less than a good pair of walking socks).

If you don't want cold blistered feet then avoid cotton socks next to your feet which soak up sweat and this then gets cold as it evaporates into the boot. I like the really thick Umbro cushioned footie socks or Prostar MaxTec footie socks which are both synthetic and don't get saturated so easily.

Went out for a muddy walk earlier and wore the avove combination with Thermic heated insoles in Dunlop Thermo+ and my feet stayed perfectly warm. Wish they made waders with these boots.

Have a great wadered muddy new year.

Here's a picture of my latest massive insulated wellies, steel toecapped and midsole and very thick liners. These are rated at -60C! make my Thermo+ feel like summer boots! They are called Kamik Goliath 3 and mine are size 13!
