Raingear in summer 2 Years, 1 Month ago

Does anyone share their passion for wearing full wet weather gear even on the hottest sunny days? If so, how do you cope with the heat, how do you handle comments from passers-by? Last summer, I was dressed in a heavy one-piece suit complete with gloves and boots while walking along the beach, and had to face a torrent of abuse from some youngsters.
I find one way of avoiding it is to wear my motorcycling suit, and people just think you are walking from a parked bike!

I love to wear rainwear in the summer!! When it's hot, the rubber and PVC go nice and soft, so it's nicer to wear, and gives off a great smell! I've not found a good way to keep cool. I generally strip and wear only a boilersuit under my gear. If I'm wearing my chest waders (which I normally am) I wade deep into a nice cool pool if available - that does the job nicely cheers Waders

Read your post about wearing rainwear in the heat. My interest has existed from when I was a small boy until this very day. Some twenty years ago I passed the practical period of motorcycling, although my interest was first stimulated by watching people on motorbikes wearing sbr mackintoshes and waders. This was years before I was able to own a motorbike. As a small boy I was given a little rubber mackintosh for normal wear and the pleasant sensations from watching people on motorbikes took off, so to say. At 18 I was on a real motorbike for the first time naturally fully macked and wadered. Having a motorbike gave me the freedom to choose the places I would visit and rest up. These pleasures were mostly during the warm part of the year. Parked in the shady parts of the woods I found in my youth that the warmth generated during an afternoon stop was a pleasurable experience enhancing the total mackintosh pleasure. These days my activities are concentrated indoors and the temperature is less hectic. I don't think I would get much pleasure outdoors, motorbike or not in the heat of a summers day. I wear my black rubber mack and waders at home whenever I get the opportunity and relive the days of the openroad regularly. Whatever your pleasure....ENJOY ! Best regards BM66

Hi! I'm new here, but certainly not to vinyl and rubber rainwear!
Here's what I do for a summer rain: I dress in a cotton t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Then I wear one of my thin, unsupported rainsuits that is one to two sizes too big. Having a too big rainsuit helps with the air circulation.

Anyone ever had the misfortune of being 'trapped' in their rainwear?
It happened to me this morning. I put on my heavy black one-piece motorcycle suit on for a walk along the beach, gloves and boots too, all buttoned and buckled up. It got hot, so I went to unbutton it, and, could I get the buttons undone? No. The cuffs were so tightly buttoned, I couldn't get the gloves off to undo it all. Spent 2 hours trapped in it, sunny weather as well so I was absolutely roasting. Luckily, a nice lady saw me struggling and offered to help. She also commented that the suit looked very smart!
I'll ensure I can get it undone before wearing that suit again!

I have been trapped in many _layer_s of rainwear. I hate it when I have to jump out of my gear and all the leggings get jammed on my ankles, it's like trying to get out of very nasty quicksand that won't let you go. In fact, I love how the heavy PVC melts like cheese on your body after being in gear for a while. In fact, when I get moist enough, I imagine that I am getting messy in and out of gear. Also, since the heat melts the PVC and cools from built up condensation, it tends to stick to me which heightens the sensations of being trapped. If you had an equally suited mate, it would make foreplay a lot easier and a lot more pleasurable.

There's a rather good story about a guy getting trapped in PVC gear on Jim Stewart's site, here: http://houdini-connections.co.uk/4-info/pubs/PVC%20text.htmI'm a bit cowardly when it comes to wearing raingear in public on sunny days. Summer rain is cool, though.

Never be afraid to wear raingear on a sunny day! There is something special about feeling the sunshine warming up your waterproofs. If you carry a crash-helmet with you, people will normally assume you've got a bike parked nearby. The picture below is the suit which I was trapped in for 2 hours last week on a hot sunny day!!

Yeah, but if your summer raingear is vinyl, you stand the chance of reducing it's lifetime... Vinyl (PVC or Polyvinyl Chloride) is normally a rigid plastic- they make piping and siding out of it for modern homes. To make it nice and flexible, they add plasticizers. That nice smell of PVC on a hot summer day? -That's the plasticizers outgassing. And as they outgas, the vinyl becomes "dried out" and cracks. This takes years to happen, but, it happens faster with some vinyls than others, because of the different types of plasticizers they use for different finishes and feels.
Best to keep vinyl out of the sun because of heat and UV rays, and in the clouds and rain where it belongs, lol!

Nothing stops me from wearing waterproofs in the summer. Get suited up in my gear an go for a walk across feilds can be fun. Spotted a few times but so many farming places here it dosn't look that much out of place. Though if its really hot I may not. Rainwear not been that great for my to be honest. Just somthing I like to relax in now and then.

I'm another lover of wearing waterproofs and heavy clothing on hot days.My favourite time is a cloudy humid day in summer when you don't stand out so much. I use the motorcyclist look sometimes-others worth trying are the fisherman and birdwatcher looks. I also work in the chemical industry and have to wear a full suit, wellies and heavy gloves several hours most weeks.Lucky me! I'm new to the group so have enjoyed reading the post.I hope to read many more

I with most of you on this. I love wearing rainwear in hot weather. The feeling of getting really sweating in my gear is great. I am normally naked under my gear so the sweat run down my body and collects in my boots. When you walk its sloshes around. Anyone else like getting really sweaty in their gear.

My ocean olive green 460g PVC one-piece suit came this week, and it hasn't rained since! Tried it out in the sunshine a few times, and it's REALLY hot, heavy and sweaty!

I'm curious about this thread- Do you guys like your gear without basting like a turkey? Is the summer more looked forward to, than say, fall or spring?
Is there a dominant feeling you like here, between the rubber or vinyl itself, the heat produced, or the sweat trickling over your rump (and other places) and down your legs?
Myself, I dislike hot humid rainy days- I try to keep cool by wearing a vinyl raincoat two sizes too big... I like getting wet on the outside of my suits.... My favorite seasons are fall, winter and spring.

Yes I like to baste like a turkey and look forward to summer.I'm in touch with a couple of others who like heavy _layer_ed clothing in hot weather-it seems to be something which dates back to being wrapped up as a child on hot days-a practise which was once quite common especially in parts of the north of england.

Hi folks,
I've read through all of this thread and I can associate with most of the comments. Personally, I love to be encapsulated in PVC or rubber gear at all times of the year, its great in the summer as PVC is more pliable and the soft, warm rainsuits soon has you sweating away and the feeling of the slippery wet plastic is just sensational, I#ve yet to feel anything that comes close to it, its almost addictive! Equally in the winter, when the PVC is much more rigid in the lower temperatures, the added restriction this gives is just as appealing for me. And the easiest way to dry out waders and rubber boots? simple, buy unlined ones! that way its just a case of rinsing them out and drying them off with a towel and for lined boots and wader, place a towel over a warm radiator thats on at a medium heat, and stand boots upside down on top of the towel so they don't come into direct contact with the radiator.

Yes really enjoy the smell of warm pvc rainwear. But agree it nice to be out and about in the cold wet weather as well in pvc rainwear. Think I must just enjoy rainwear all the time.

In Plymouth Wednesday morning, temperature high 20's,not a breath of wind, bright sun, increadibly humid.I was wearing shorts and t-shirt and soaking in sweat.I saw a man dressed in full armour black trousers and jacket, gloves and full face helmet pushing a motorcycle. Rainbeau, thanks for pics.Hope you are wearing that pvc suit every day for dog walking.Your black suit is unusual-I assume it has been modified with all those buttons?. Intend to do a walk Sunday in my Sundridge floatation coat and padded nylon trousers. Cheers

The black motorcycle suit I bought second hand, it was already covered in buttons. It's a very hot suit, very heavy, tight and restrictive, sewn in gloves, very difficult to get in and out of. I often wear that one to walk the dog in. I had some comments from a few old dears as I walked past them, they said I looked the smartest motorcyclist they'd ever seen!
Enjoy your walk on Sunday Max, i'm sure you'll be warm and dry!
