One piece mud suit 1 Year ago Karma: 0
Has anyone tried the one piece wader suit available from Ocean rainwear?

The suit has boots attached and lets you go into deep water / mud almost up to your neck. Ideal for those really messy and wet jobs!

Only critisism I have at the moment is that it comes with rubber cuffs, rather than attached gloves. I think attached rubber gloves would be much better as the suit has been designed to be userd in hazardous environments.

I've got one and mine is in the heaviest 600g PVC, with knee pads, attached gloves, hood, and studded safety wellies attached. You can get as wet and muddy as you like plus if you get stuck in the mud you can crawl out with no problems. It is very hot to wear though but now it's getting colder, it should be better.

Hi,

The one I've seen in the Ocean catalog is only avaiable in 350 gram PVC - your's is almost twice that, the sort of grade the chest waders are mode of! I'd love to have a suit like you have!

Did you have it specially made by Ocean? If you don't mind me asking, was it expensive?

Re:One piece mud suit 1 Year ago Karma: 0
I ordered mine through the Danish site JH Gear. The suit was custom made and took several months to arrive. I added the knee pads, Full safety wellies with tungsten studs and asked for the heaviest weight material as I wanted to ensure the suit lasted in the worst conditions. Would have prefered Thermo+ wellies but apparantly PU foamed boots don't bond well to the PVC so had green Hevea Actiforts added which aren't great as they have quite wide ankles so the mud likes to steal them off your feet! It was quite expensive and was about £270 with postage but that's worth it for the ultimate piece of rainwear. Afterall, a drysuit and top of the range gore Tex jacket would cost more. Can't wait to really test it out properly in the deep stuff.

Wow!

That does sound like a great suit... I might contact Ocean UK to see if they can do special orders.

If you have any pics of the suit in action, would love to see them!

The standard suit from Ocean comes only in orange, 325g PVC without gloves attached.
I think you can make special orders from them though - it's much more expensive but worth it.
I'm still considering getting one myself - Similar to the orange ocean one, only in green, heavyweight (500g+) PVC (the kind waders are made of) with rubber gloves attached.
When I get around to getting a price from ocean, I will let you know.

I have one in green heavy material, but I was wondering if there was an alternative supplier for them other than Ocean

I think Elka make them too - but they are pretty much the same as the Ocean model. In fact I think the material is even lighter in weight.

Thats the one I have, I also have a lighterweight one aswell, but it only has cuffs on the sleeves as opposed to gloves. It also has safety boots, which I would recommend, they are much sturdier and more suitable for use at work. The quality of the welding is not so good on the lighter suit though, although it is watertight.

Ocean Danmark told me they don't sell to private customers. And a suit is only available in orange. Has anybody a distributor or trader where such a one piece rainsuit can be ordered? Green or black with boots and possibly with gloves - or wristbands. Please let me know.

Hi Folks,

the suit you are looking for is also available at rainwear-shop.com

look here

We are official OCEAN-Dealer and can supply the whole range of garment. Customized suits (other material or colour, gloves ect) are possible, but will last a few weeks. Standart suits (orange) are available within 1 week.

Please ask with your special requirements and we will see what we can do for you..

Hi,
when the Finnish Rainwearfriends had their spring meetimg last month, there were several participants who had that Ocean suit either as such or under their other wading gear. A couple of pics are available in the Yahoo group 'colourfulrainwear'. There are also other pics not only from the last meeting but also from previous meetings.
That suit proved to be very useful. So if you wonder when looking at the pics how people can wade in icecold water or sit in the middle of a pond, that suit is the secret.

I was looking at that one today, but I dont think they do attached gloves, and I also noticed it has a zip up the back, which is not that practical for self donning. Incidentally though, I have found a method of bonding PVC gloves to some suit arms which has worked very well for those of you who want better protection from the elements. You will need some of these http://www.comasec.com/produits.aspx?product_id=00000018 and a buffing/cleaning solution (like the stuff you use to clean a punctured inner tube on a bike before you put a patch on it) to thoroughly clean & degrease the arm of the suit you want to bond them to. Basically its a very simple procedure of finding a close fitting pot which you force down the arm of your suit till its tight, then you apply some special rubber glue, (easily available from DIY stores) and roll the glove up over the suit arm, making sure its alignment is correct for your hands. You need to make sure there are no air bubbles. Once its cured, 12Hrs later, I go round the edges with a little more glue to make sure its bonded right to the edges, and I do this inside the suit too. Good results so far, the trick is to get the sleeve stretched tightly in the first place, which makes it easy to bond the glove on.

I have found some glue are better than others I should say, you might find some wont bond certain types of material, so test a small area first if you can

Hope you find that usefull
